On the one hand, "The End of Novelty" indicates changes to humanity across the board, with specific changes inside of poker (The End of Poker as we know it).
Idiocracy is here, or around the corner; the only thing Mike Judge left out of his eponymous movie is that the future is androgynous -- the future is Vanessa Selbst and Jason Somerville.
***
But on the other hand, there is a definite focus on poker, as it relates to the future in general, and to the future of (the end of) poker more specifically.
Androgynous idiocracy aside, the future is full of people who will not stand for Doc Sands taking forever to make a play. The poker players of the future either do Doc Sands better than Doc Sands ever did Doc Sands, or they are EVEN MORE ANNOYING than Doc Sands, because, well, Doc Sands started it.
***
Come with me as we traverse the Poker Apocalypse. At the turn of the 22nd century, as Vanessa Selbst waits painstakingly for Doc Sands to make his move, we wait as she is on the verge of he 193rd World Series of Poker bracelet...and the world's fallen apart...and the tournament is taking place in the virtual mind-space of dead Vegas tycoon Steve Wynn...we call it Wynnworld.

The End of Novelty
The 17th procedure
the first artificially intelligent being
decided to execute
was to invent from scratch
a sick ass internet game
that’s horrific like a traffic accident
but still as nerf-safe
as grazing on your run of the mill
social network.
A massively multiplayer multiplot game.
Give me your eyeballs, it thought...
I need to make some bitcoin.
